PARIS (AP) _ Rafael Nadal, ranked No. 2 in the world, pulled out of the Paris Masters on Sunday with an abdominal injury.
A scan revealed a small tear on Saturday. He felt pain during practice earlier in the week, organizers said. The indoor event begins Monday.
``Everything was going well until I started trying to serve. That’s when I felt pain,″ Nadal said on the French tennis federation’s Web site. ``I trained on Friday, but the pain got worse.″
Nadal hopes to be fit in time for the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai on Nov. 13.
