City council meets April 9
NEEDLES — Needles City Council and Public Utility Authority meet in regular session Tuesday, April 9.
Open sessions begin at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1111 Bailey Ave. at J Street.
The sessions opens with a presentation on growing cannabis in greenhouses.
City Manager Rick Daniel’s contract is up for extension that night and is to be voted on as the final agenda item.
The council is to hear a final city audit report for the fiscal year which ended June 30, 2018.
A public hearing and vote is to be held for ordinances amending the general plan and granting a zoning change from commercial resort to highway commercial for property along Needles Highway at 320 Balboa. Deer Park Development wishes to develop the property in part for cannabis facilities and in part for unrelated uses commercial or residential. The item was continued from the meeting of March 26. Primary discussion that night centered around public access to the ‘Needles Lagoon’ area.
Consent calendar items in the April 9 meeting include approving an $84,000 bid for replacing the gym floor at the Needles Recreation Center; and granting six month extensions on three conditional use permits at the former Dollar General Store along south Highway 95. The permits are for marijuana cultivation, distribution and manufacturing.
