Free household hazardous waste collection day set for Dec. 8
Lake Havasu City residents are invited to participate in a free household hazardous waste collection event, Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Public Works Maintenance Yard, located at 900 London Bridge Road.
The event is open to Lake Havasu City residents only and offers a safe disposal of a wide range of household generated hazardous wastes. Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes such as pouring them down the drain, on the ground, into sewers, or in some cases putting them out with the trash can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health.
No commercial or industrial wastes will be accepted. Residents must bring identification with a Lake Havasu City address or a recent billing statement showing subscription to trash service within Lake Havasu City.
Items accepted at this event include: paint: oil and latex, stains, varnishes, solvents, thinners, and adhesives; automotive parts: motor oil, filters, antifreeze, car batteries, gasoline, tires (off rim), oily water, oily rags/debris, and oily dirt; other chemicals: flammable liquids and aerosol cans (no pesticides); fluorescent tubes: tubes, bulbs, and other mercury-containing lamps (not broken); Batteries: AA, AAA, C and D cells and button batteries; and, E-Waste: televisions, computers, monitors, DVD players, CPUs, hard drives, microwaves, computer mouse, shredders and radios.
Items not accepted at this event include: pesticides, poisons, corrosives, medical waste, broken lights, construction debris, and pharmaceuticals. However, a drop–box in front of the Police Department is available 24-hours a day for household pharmaceuticals to be disposed of.
Please bring your household hazardous materials in the original containers with labels intact – do not mix products. Label materials not in their original containers. If you are unaware of a specific product name, provide product category, if possible. No containers larger than five gallons will be allowed. Please secure products so they won’t tip or leak. Store products in the back end of the car, away from the passenger compartment.
To ease the collection process and flow of traffic, residents will enter the Public Works Maintenance Yard from London Bridge Road and exit at Aviation Court.
