Body found in sunken car in Savannah River, according to North Augusta police
The North Augusta boat ramp was closed Friday evening after a car was found in the river with a body inside.
North Augusta Public Safety and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources were called out to the Savannah River this morning and found a sunken car with a body inside, according to Lt. Luke Sherman with the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.
A car was found submerged near the boat ramp at Riverview Park in North Augusta on Friday morning by a paddle boarder; when divers went down to search, a body was found inside, Sherman said.
The victim has not been identified.
Crews were unable to get the car out of the water, so the boat ramp will be closed until recovery efforts are completed Saturday, Sherman said.
