Matthews Post Another Strong Round

May 4, 2019

His round wasn’t as dominant as on Thursday, but Brandon Matthews stayed entrenched among the leaders on Day 2 of the Nashville Golf Open.

The Pittston Area product fired an even 72 on Friday, keeping his score at 7 under and Matthews in a tie for sixth in the Web.com Tour event. A handful of golfers weren’t able to finish their rounds because of darkness.

Matthews started his day with a bogey on the par-4 first hole and struggled on the front nine, ultimately posting four bogeys and heading to the turn at 2 over. However, he settled in and birdied a pair of par-5 holes at 13 and 15 to keep his spot among the top 10.

This is the first time in seven tournaments the Temple product made the cut. In a video interview posted by the Web.com Tour Twitter account, Matthews credited a putting lesson with eight-time PGA Tour winner Brad Faxon in helping turn around his fortunes.

“Even the last few tournaments, even though I haven’t been putting the scores up, my putting has been incredible,” he said. “A lot of confidence with it, and it’s just amazing how much of a 360 (it’s been).”

Matthews is scheduled to tee off for Round 3 at 2:34 p.m.
