FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) _ Record-setting medalist Beth Bauer of Valrico, Fla., and defending champion Dorothy Delasin of Daly City, Calif., headed for a quarterfinal showdown in the 49th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship after winning two matches on Thursday.
Bauer, the 17-year-old high school senior-to-be, rallied from three down with seven holes left to eliminate Selina Divietri of Myrtle Beach, S.C., 1-up. Delasin kept pace by beating Andrea Makauskas of Canada 6 and 5 and Summer Sirmons of Cuthbert, Ga., 1-up, surviving the latter match after blowing most of a five-hole lead.
Candy Hanneman of Brazil, second to Bauer in the qualifying portion of the tournament, also advanced to the quarterfinals, beating Jamie Kim of Beverly Hills, Calif., 1-up and Salimah Mussani of Canada 2-up.
