Italian Marchessa Kidnapped From Her Estate

June 28, 1985

ROME (AP) _ Three masked men armed with submachine guns kidnapped an Italian noblewoman from her estate north of Rome, police reported.

Marchessa Isabella Guglielmi, 37, was abducted Thursday as she returned with a companion in the early morning hours to her home at Montalto di Castro, about 55 miles northwest of Rome.

The kidnappers struck her companion several times and drove off with the marchessa in her car, the report said.

Police found the car and one submachine gun near Montalto di Castro, where investigators believe another car had been waiting.

The Guglielmis, an old Roman noble family, raise racehorses on the estate.
