BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey township officials say restoration work on an iconic, roadside dinosaur on Route 9 will begin in the spring.

The 12-foot-high Bayville dinosaur has stood in Berkeley Township for more than eight decades. The Committee to Restore the Bayville Dinosaur tells the Asbury Park Press the brontosaurus statue will receive a new head and tail design, and it will be positioned away from the busy highway.

Republican Mayor Carmen Amato Jr. says there is potential for bad winter weather, which is why work with take place in the spring.

The dinosaur was originally built for the 1925 film “The Lost World.” Officials say years of neglect have led to a current state of deterioration.
