Kroger security officer fires at man who tried to steal food
CORDOVA, Tenn. (AP) — A grocery store says a security officer shot at a man trying to steal food in Tennessee.
The Commercial Appeal cites a statement from Kroger that says a man was leaving with a cart “stacked full” of meat and seafood when he was stopped by a loss-prevention officer Sunday morning. The man told the officer his receipt was in his car, which he led him to before getting into the vehicle and putting it in reverse.
The man ran over the officer’s foot in the process, to which the officer responded by firing a single shot at the tire.
The man was able to get away. Police say the security officer will not be charged in the shooting. He suffered minor pain and bruising.
The investigation is ongoing.
