North Augusta 4, Aiken 2

North Augusta won the tiebreaker match with Aiken to earn the No. 2 seed from Region 4-AAAA in the playoffs. The victory means the Yellow Jackets will play at home Thursday in the first round of the playoffs against York.

Jackson Beavers, Ryan Franklin, Ben Estroff and the doubles team of Blake Fagan and Kyle Maurice got wins for the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday.

Aiken’s Mason Brodie and Charlie Glennie earned wins for the Hornets. Aiken will travel to South Pointe for the opening round of the playoffs on Thursday.


Barnwell 10, Mullins 0 (5 innings)

Top-seeded Barnwell opened the District V-AA playoffs with a 10-0 win over Mullins. The Warhorses will face the Philip Simmons vs. Marion winner at 7 pm. Thursday at Barnwell’s John Hall Field.

South Aiken 12, Richland Northeast 7

South Aiken scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to reclaim the lead in a 12-7 win over Richland Northeast. DJ Ludwick and AJ Deibel each had two hits for the T-Breds, and Ludwick had four RBI. South Aiken led 5-0 through three innings, but Richland Northeast fought back for a 7-6 lead after a four-run fifth inning. The T-Breds added four of their own in the home half of the fifth, then plated two more in the sixth. South Aiken will play either Eastside or Pickens on Thursday; those teams will meet Wednesday after their game scheduled for Tuesday was postponed.

Several playoff games postponed

Four area baseball teams that were supposed to open postseason play Tuesday had their games pushed back to Wednesday due to lingering effects of rainy weather. Aiken High’s Class AAAA opener at South Pointe is now set for 7 p.m.; Midland Valley’s Class AAAA first-round game at York is at 6 p.m.; Silver Bluff opens the Class AA playoffs at Latta at 6 p.m.; and Fox Creek starts the Class AA playoffs at Chesterfield at 6 p.m.
