Gold Star Mothers chapter established in western Mass
HOLYOKE, Mass. (AP) — Western Massachusetts has for the first time its own chapter of American Gold Star Mothers, the organization for women who have lost children in military service.
The chapter was established over the weekend during a ceremony at the Holyoke Soldiers Home.
It will be led by Paula Bouffard, of Westfield, whose son, U.S. Army Cpl. Jeremy Bouffard, was killed in action in Iraq in 2007.
Bouffard tells the Daily Hampshire Gazette (http://bit.ly/18RxHMr ) the western Massachusetts chapter will make it easier for her to share her feelings with others who have experienced her pain.
The organization raises money, holds community events, and offer services to members.
Bouffard said until now, families in western Massachusetts had to travel to the Boston area if they wanted to participate in the Gold Star community.
