Christina Aguilera: Only ‘voice’ that counts is hers
Remember when Grammy Award-winning pop star Christina Aguilera’s career was stuck a bit in 2010? In February 2011, Aguilera messed up the lyrics to the national anthem at the Super Bowl. A week later, she stumbled at the Grammys; a month after that she was detained for public intoxication.
Then came six seasons of “The Voice” and her star rose again, especially with older folks, as it resumed its place with pop fans. Today the former Mickey Mouse Club performer is not sounding thankful for the show, however, which she called an “energy sucker.” In fairness, these shows never know when to call it a wrap, until ratings slide. (And slickly produced reality TV is anything but reality.)
But Aguilera, great pipes intact, now has sexy new songs (“Accelerate”), a strong anthem-ish song with Demi Lovato (“Fall in Line”) and a fall tour, her first since 2008, bringing her “Liberation Tour” to Mohegan Sun Arena Saturday, Oct. 6. She’s also a mother and has served as a spokesperson for one world hunger relief effort, helping to raise $150 million, says a news release.
Mohegan Sun Arena, Saturday, Oct. 6, 8 p.m. $126-$76 (limited availability). Ticketmaster.com
