DeKalb Fire Department rules Greenbrier Road fire accidental

November 8, 2018

DeKALB – A fire along Greek Row that called six fire departments and two police departments into action Tuesday evening has been ruled accidental, according to a news release from the DeKalb Fire Department.

DeKalb firefighters were called to 914 Greenbrier Road about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday for a second-floor apartment fire, and with help from the Sycamore, Cortland, Shabbona, Genoa-Kingston and Maple Park departments, the fire was put out in 25 minutes, the release said.

It caused about $15,000 in damage and was contained to the single apartment, and workers with the ownership group, Hunter Properties, were working on-site Wednesday afternoon but declined to comment.

The release said the fire was accidental and began in a bedroom, but that none of the tenants were home at the time of the fire. It adds that firefighters had to return about 1 a.m. Wednesday to put out a small, hidden fire in the soffit, which lingered from the previous fire.

The DeKalb and Northern Illinois University police departments assisted at the scene, as well.
