Puerto Rico policeman killed during holdup
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — An off-duty police officer has been killed by robbers, authorities said Wednesday.
Police said the men approached 36-year-old Edwin Roman Acevedo outside a pharmacy in the northern town of Trujillo Alto and announced they were holding him up. Police said Roman used his department-issued gun to defend himself, but was shot three times and died.
Police said one 22-year-old suspect arrived at a hospital after being shot in his left hand.
Authorities said a car traveling near the shooting late Tuesday was hit by a bullet, but no one was injured.
