Marion E. Gerstenkorn, 87, Portage/Madison

Marion E. Gerstenkorn, 87, of Portage/Madison, passed away peacefully at Oak Park Place in Madison on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Marion was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Portage, the son of Ernest and Bonnie (Rasmussen) Gerstenkorn. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Marion was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he had worked as a letter carrier. He had a great love for music.

He is survived by his daughters, Denise (Michael) Hinnendael of Madison, and Marla Mae Eddy of Madison; two grandchildren, Joseph and Jeffrey Hinnendael; two sisters, Hazel Patchin of Portage, and Kay (Walter) Gjavenis of Portage; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Wesley Gerstenkorn; and his brothers, Edward and Paul Gerstenkorn.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Silver Lake Cemetery, Portage.

In the future, a memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 211 W. Pleasant St., Portage, on Friday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Dave Mowers officiating. A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. in Silver Lake Cemetery, with military rites provided. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, from noon until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
