Laser Surgery Co., Tiger Sign Deal

February 3, 2000

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) _ Tiger Woods thought so much of the company that performed corrective eye surgery on him last October that he agreed to be its spokesman.

Woods, the No. 1 player in the world and one of the hottest sports marketing properties, signed an endorsement Wednesday with TLC Laser Eye Centers Inc., the company that performed LASIK surgery.

Terms of the deal weren’t released.

Woods had the surgery Oct. 1, during a four-week break after the Ryder Cup. He went on to win the last three PGA Tour events of the year, and his victory last month in Hawaii gave him five straight on tour, the longest streak since 1953.

Woods has worn contacts throughout his career, and it caused him problems when allergies kicked in during blustery days. He also said it was difficult to gauge long putts, but that the eye surgery allowed him to get a clearer view on the course.

``Now that I’m normal, one of the things that appears to me is the slopes are bigger,″ he said in October after the surgery. ``Objects are bigger. The hole is bigger, ball is bigger, clubs are bigger.″

Woods also has deals with Nike, Titleist, American Express, Buick and Electronic Arts.
