Johnny Carson Honored in Nebraska
NORFOLK, Neb. (AP) _ Johnny Carson’s hometown honored its famous native son with a billboard sporting a huge computer-generated photo of the retired king of late-night television.
The sign reads: ``Heeere’s Norfolk. Proud Home Town of ... Johnny Carson.″ It sits along U.S. Highway 275, east of Norfolk.
A crowd of about 30 people roared ``Heeere’s Johnny″ _ his signature introduction from ``The Tonight Show″ _ after Mayor Harley Rector unveiled the sign Wednesday.
``It’s a happy day for Norfolk,″ said Denny Reeves, dressed in a tuxedo and sandals as the show’s theme song played in the background. ``Johnny instilled an awful lot of pride in Norfolk and northeast Nebraska.″
