Misericordia Men Win On Senior Day

The Misericordia men’s basketball team closed the regular season a 73-63 win over visiting Eastern on Saturday on Senior Appreciation Day. Senior Jason Kenny led the Cougars with 16 points and eight rebounds, while senior Justin Iton and Toni Harding both added 14 points. Senior Alec Rodway contributed nine points and six rebounds and Stone McCreary had eight points and seven rebounds. Misericordia finishes MAC Freedom play 7-7 and will await a potential bid for the ECAC Championships. FDU-Florham 80, Wilkes 77 At Madison, New Jersey, Marcus Robinson scored a season-high 28 points as Wilkes nearly rallied from a double-digit deficit, but ultimately fell in the MAC Freedom regular-season finale. Wilkes still earned the No. 2 seed and a home game in the upcoming MAC semifinals. The Colonels fell to 17-8 overall and 9-5 in the conference. Mark Mullins finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, and Rob Pecorelli had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Colonels. Women’s Basketball At FDU-Florham, Wilkes trailed by 12 near the end of the third quarter and climbed back into the game, taking a one-point lead before FDU-Florham closed out the game with an 84-80 victory. Wilkes finishes the season 8-17 and 4-10 in the conference. Ashley Caster scored 20 points in the loss, and Vanessa Whitecavage had 17 points. Wrestling Trailing after its first bout, Wilkes posted seven consecutive wins on its way to a 28-10 win over Scranton at Marts Center. The Colonels conclude their dual season with a 20-4 record. Wilkes got wins from Dylan O’Connor, Thomas Stokes, Kyle Medrow, John Ritter, Nicholas Racanelli, Ashton Gyenizs and Austin Cominsky. Scranton 30, King’s 19 Five Monarchs were able to win their bouts, but they ultimately lost in the Cross County Challenge to Scranton. The five winners were Dakota Quick, Tony Immediato, Kade Kravits, Nick Price and Isaac Mensah. Women’s Ice Hockey Host Utica scored two goals in the second period on way to a 3-0 shutout of Wilkes. The Colonels conclude their inaugural season with a 0-15-1 record. Ally Joly finished with 63 saves in the net on the day. Wilkes will join the MAC for its 2019-20 season. Men’s Volleyball Misericordia opened MAC play by splitting meets against Widener and Messiah. Brian Ross led the Cougars in a 3-1 loss to Messiah with 15 kills, while Caleb Bauder added 14 kills, two aces and three blocks. Bauder had nine kills in a 3-0 sweep of Widener, and Jordan Spidle had 14 assists and four aces. Swimming Misericordia’s Aidan Bergan had one of the best runs for a local swimmer on Friday, finishing third in the 50 free on Day 2 of the MAC Championships. The team of Danny Chlebove, Ricky Averill, Logan Fluegel and Bergan placed sixth in the 200 medley relay. Grace Nikolski had a seventh-place finish for the Cougar women in the 200 IM, while Mary T. Nikolski was ninth in the 50 free. Wilkes’ Trey Harloff finished 10th in the 200 IM. Baseball Misericordia opened the season with a doubleheader sweep at Shenandoah, 7-5 and 16-4 on Friday. Steve Weisensee, Dalton Emerich and Sean Lyons were a combined 9 for 9 with six RBIs in the second game.
