Brunswick provides basketball court to GHS boys varsity team
Brunswick School’s Dann Gymnasium became the Greenwich High School boys varsity basketball team’s latest home court on Monday night.
The Cardinals, who played Fairfield Ludlowe Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Brunswick, have been on the road all season, due to the fact that Greenwich High School’s gymnasium is currently unavailable to hold basketball games for the boys and girls teams.
A flood inside Greenwich High School’s Performing Arts Center several weeks ago, caused the building to be shut down. The flood also affected the gym, which has had limited access since. Gym ‘C’, a smaller gym, located next to the main gym, has been utilized by Greenwich’s wrestling team.
The Greenwich boys basketball team’s scheduled home game against Darien this past Friday was held at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk and Monday’s game, which was supposed to be played at GHS, was switched to Brunswick.
“We have been very fortunate that several schools have been gracious to share gymnasium space with us,” Greenwich High school athletic director Gus Lindine said. “Norwalk Schools, Stamford Schools, Brunswick School and Greenwich Country Day School have all offered to help us with basketball game sites. Our middle schools have also adjusted their schedules to provide us with practice times. Our boys played at Brien McMahon High School on Friday night and are playing at Brunswick tonight (Monday) — our players and coaches can’t thank them enough.”
Greenwich officials reached out to Brunswick School during the holiday break to inquire about the availability of its gym and Brunswick obliged.
“We’re happy to be able to support GHS and the town,” Brunswick Headmaster Tom Philip said. “We’re all very fortunate to be in a community such as Greenwich and welcome the opportunity to help out to the degree we can.”
With the exception of its season-opener against Trinity Catholic School on Dec. 12, which took place before the leak in the Performance Arts Center, Greenwich High’s girls basketball team has played all of its games on the road as well. The Cardinals visited Fairfield Ludlowe Monday night and their scheduled home game against Ridgefield on Thursday, will be on the road.
