Sterling Shell to accept donations Friday for boy

December 3, 2018

STERLING – Donations can be made Friday to help a Walnut family whose 7-year-old son was run over by a semitrailer in September 2017.

Bellringers will accept money from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Shell station, 2412 E. Lincolnway, for the family of Caleb Clausen, son of Annie and Ben Clausen. Donation also can be made now at the station.

Caleb was riding his electric minibike when he was struck by the semi. He underwent 10 surgeries and stayed at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria and the Rehabilitation Institute in Chicago until Dec. 22, 2017.

Caleb faces continued rehabilitation. According to the Clausen family’s Prayers for Caleb page on Facebook, he will undergo bladder reconstructive surgery next year.

Sheila Bittner, an employee at the Shell station, said she hopes to deliver the money to the Clausens on Dec. 15. Donations will help with Christmas, travel and other expenses.
