Library begins $25 million renovation project
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Providence Public Library in Rhode Island is kicking off its multimillion-dollar renovation project.
WJAR-TV reports the library is knocking down a wall Thursday to celebrate what officials say is the largest public library renovation in state history.
The renovation will take 12 to 18 months to complete, and is expected to cost around $25 million.
The goal of the project is upgrading the 1950s-era wing, auditorium and special collection section.
Items at the library were auctioned last month to help raise money for the project.
The library is a nonprofit organization that is independent from the city.
