Former Louisiana congressman’s memoir to be published
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A former Louisiana congressman has a memoir coming out this summer.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports Bob Livingston, who spent 21 years representing parts of southeast Louisiana, reflects on his time in Washington, D.C., in “The Windmill Chaser: Triumphs and Less in American Politics.” The book is scheduled for release Sept. 11 by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press.
Livingston was elected to the 1st Congressional District in 1977. He rose to chair of the Appropriations Committee and was chosen in 1998 to succeed Newt Gingrich as speaker. But amid impeachment proceedings against Democratic President Bill Clinton and a Hustler magazine investigation of Livingston, he shocked the House by announcing his resignation on Dec. 19, 1998.
He has since worked as a lobbyist in Washington.
