Chicago Mayor Daley Hospitalized

April 1, 2000

CHICAGO (AP) _ Mayor Richard M. Daley was taken to a hospital on Saturday with mild discomfort in his chest, his spokesman said.

Paramedics took Daley to Northwestern Memorial Hospital from his home ``as a precautionary measure,″ said his spokesman, Rod Sierra.

Doctors were running a series of tests to determine the cause of his discomfort, Sierra said. The mayor was resting comfortably in stable condition.

Daley, 57, had addressed a neighborhood assembly on community policing Saturday morning.

``He works out regularly and is in very good shape,″ Sierra said Saturday. ``I was with him in Washington yesterday. He worked out for more than an hour on the bike in the gym.″

Daley is the son of Chicago’s legendary Boss, Mayor Richard J. Daley. He easily extended his family’s political dynasty last year when he defeated former Black Panther Bobby Rush to win a third full term.
