Bert Koenders appointed new Dutch foreign minister
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Bert Koenders, a former United Nations envoy to Mali, has been appointed the Netherlands’ new foreign minister, replacing Frans Timmermans, who is joining the European Commission.
The government says Koenders was sworn in Friday morning by King Willem-Alexander at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.
From 2007-2010, Koenders was Dutch minister for overseas aid. More recently, he led UN missions in Ivory Coast and Mali.
