Jolly’s penalty kick lifts Pirates over Mohawks
McDERMOTT, Ohio — Aaron Jolly scored on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute to lift Wheelersburg to a 3-2 victory over Northwest Tuesday in boys high school soccer.
Athan Temponeras and Chayden Holbrook scored in the first half as the Pirates took a 2-0 lead. Chase McClay scored at 52:25 to pull the Mohawks within 2-1. Evan Throckmorton tied it 3 minutes later.
GALLIA ACADEMY 6, CHESAPEAKE 1: The Blue Devils overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Panthers in Centenary, Ohio. Jacob Martin gave Chesapeake a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute, but Justin Day tied it and Brody Witt scored two goals within 28 seconds of one another to give Gallia Academy a 3-1 lead it never relinquished. Pedro Moreno scored twice for the Blue Devils and Tristen Posley once.
RUSSELL 4, LAWRENCE COUNTY 2: Nolan Sabotchick scored four goals as the Red Devils (7-7) doubled the score on the Bulldogs (10-3-1).
Sabotchick scored twice in 23 seconds between the third and fourth minutes, then added the difference maker in the 20th minute. Tyler Maynard scored twice for Lawrence County.
WHEELERSBURG 2, NORTH-WEST 0: Christen Risner scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the first half as the Pirates topped the Mohawks.
Libby Miller added an insurance goal in the second half.
RUSSELL 5, EAST CARTER 2: Lena Blanke scored three goals to lead the Red Devils over the Raiders. Taylor Stamper and Georgia Arrington also scored for Russell.
