FITCHBURG -- State police are investigating a death that occurred Tuesday night at 35 Wanoosnoc Road, according to a spokesman with Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

“We are investigating a death,” said Early’s spokesman Tim Connolly, who deferred offering any additional information.

Police Chief Ernest Martineau confirmed there was a stabbing at the Wanoosnoc address and there is a “very active investigation going on,” adding the incident occurred at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday.

While it has been reported there was a double stabbing, a spokesman with the fire department confirmed two people were transported to UMass HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital’s Leominster campus, they could not confirm their injuries.

The spokesman also said a third person was taken from the same address to the hospital about 30 minutes after the original transport.

Connolly said the DA’s office will release additional information as details become available.

This is a developing story.
