Suspect named in Bourbon St. shootings
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police chief Ronal Serpas says a 20-year-old suspect has been arrested and faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with a Bourbon Street gunfight that left a woman dead and nine people hurt.
Serpas says 20-year-old Trung T. Le was captured Friday in Mississippi. He also faces nine counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Serpas said he is confident others involved in the gunplay also will be identified and caught. What sparked the gunfight, and whether more than one other person was involved, remained unclear.
Most of those hit in the Sunday morning spree were visitors to the city, including one woman from Australia. One person remained hospitalized Friday in stable condition.
The shooting happened in the heart of the city’s tourist-friendly French Quarter neighborhood days ahead of the Essence Festival — a major summer tourist event that opened Thursday.
