LAKE VILLAGE, Ind. — Two children have been pronounced dead after being pulled from the Kankakee River near the Illinois-Indiana border Tuesday night, and a man has been charged with criminal wrongdoing in connection with their deaths.
According to published reports from various sources, including the Northwest Indiana Times, one of the victims is Levi Patillo, a 4-year-old boy from DeMotte, Ind.
The other child has not been identified.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department said Eric Patillo, 34, is being held on two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death. His relationship with the children has not been described by police as of early this morning.
The children were pulled from the river at the LaSalle Fish and Wildlife Area at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday after the Indiana Department of Natural Resources was notified that two children were in danger of drowning.
