CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) _ Furman’s John Keith blocked a punt and returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown as the Paladins defeated Chattanooga 43-21 Saturday.

Keith blocked the first punt by Chattanooga’s (7-4) Scot Kielblock with 9:09 to go in the first quarter and it was recovered by Rico Perkins at the Mocs’ 41. That set up the first score of the game, a 36-yard field goal by Jason Wells.

Early in the second quarter, Bernard Stewart blocked another Kielblock punt, picked up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown to put Furman (7-4) up 10-0.

Wells scored two more field goals in the second quarter to give Furman a 16-0 halftime, and the Paladins came roaring back to open the third on Desmond Kitching’s 90-yard-kickoff return.

Furman’s defense kept Chattanooga quarterback Brian Hampton on the ground for much of the game, with Bryan Dailer getting six sacks. He had a total of 13 tackles.

Keith’s 99-yard interception return with 3:51 to go in the fourth gave Furman its final score.
