Fonda Rides in Motorcycle Rally

October 18, 1999

NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Peter Fonda roared through town on a striped and star-spangled chopper to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ``Easy Rider.″

Fonda took part in a motorcycle rally and attended a private party in the French Quarter on Saturday to raise money for sick children and promote the movie, which Columbia Pictures is re-releasing on digital video disk.

Columbia also has discussed releasing ``Easy Rider″ in theaters on a limited basis, said William Hayward, who co-produced the picture about two hippies, played by Fonda and Dennis Hopper, who ride through the South from California.

Fonda quoted his character’s closing lines at the party: ``You know what Billy? We blew it.″

``Hell’s Angels has more family values than most U.S. families,″ he added. ``We better wake up or my prophetic words at the end of ‘Easy Rider’ will come true.″
