Sokol Day Picnic Celebrates Slovak Culture

Group 7 “Rev. Josef Murgas” Slovak Catholic Sokol of Wilkes-Barre will hold its 83rd annual “Sokol Day” Picnic from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Plains Lions Pavilion, Clarke Lane, Plains Twp. The picnic will feature Slovak foods and other picnic favorites, homemade baked goods and games of chance for all ages. Public is welcome at this event, which celebrates Slovak culture. Any members who would like to make basket donations or children’s toys for games of chance should contact an officer. Group 7 is planning its third annual reunion from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at the North End Slovak Citizens Club. A Group 7 bus trip to New York City will be held Saturday, Dec. 1. The next group meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the North End Slovak Citizens Club.
