Original ‘Studio C’ cast is leaving the show for a new project

August 10, 2018

The 10 original cast members of BYUtv’s “Studio C” announced Thursday they are leaving the comedy show to start a new project to be announced later this year.

“Studio C” will hire new cast members and incorporate additional writers for season 10 of the show, according to a BYUtv release.

“We are incredibly grateful to these 10 founding cast members of ‘Studio C’ and excited for them as they spread their wings and pursue new opportunities outside of BYUtv,” said Michael Dunn, BYUtv managing director, in the release. “We are equally enthusiastic about the opportunity ‘Studio C’ has created to find, develop and share new talent in the family sketch comedy space.”

The comedy show has gained a national fan base since its beginning in October 2012, having accrued 1 billion views on YouTube to date.

“When we created ‘Studio C,’ we couldn’t have scripted any better its path to success,” Dunn said in the release. “We believed there was a market for sketch comedy both kids and parents could enjoy together. The founding cast enabled us to prove this concept beyond our expectations, igniting an amazing fan base and market for family comedy.”

The founding “Studio C” cast plans to go out with a bang, kicking off season 9 with a live performance Aug. 24 from New York City, hosted by Kenan Thompson of “Saturday Night Live.” Thompson will also participate in comedy sketches with the cast, which will air Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. MDT as the new season’s premiere.

“Studio C” co-creator Matt Meese, who originally pitched the idea to BYUtv, thanked the station in the release for giving the idea a chance and “putting the weight of its powerful platform behind it.”

“We worked as hard as we could over the past six years to bring accessible family comedy to an underserved audience and decided this was the right time to create something on our own,” Meese said in the release. “We can’t wait to see a new generation of ‘Studio C’ talent developed and strongly believe ‘Studio C’ is the perfect platform for undiscovered comedic actors and writers.”

Founding member Mallory Everton encouraged fans in an Instagram post to keep track of the cast on social media for further updates regarding their future project.

“We’re extremely excited about what we’re cooking up next for you guys,” Everton wrote. “We can’t thank you enough for all the fun and support these past six years.”
