Warrant: Raleigh man locked pit bulls in van, plywood box and starved them
A Raleigh man was arrested Thursday and charged in the abuse and neglect of his two pit bulls.
Kawand Washington, 38, of New Bern Avenue, was charged with one count of cruelty to animals and two felony counts of killing animals by starvation.
According to an arrest warrant, Washington locked a black female pit bull in a van “without adequate water or ventilation.” Washington also locked a white-and-brown male pit bull in a plywood box, leading to the dog’s death, the warrant states.
Both dogs, named Egypt and Drip, belonged to Washington, the warrant states.
The incidents occurred on April 20. Washington was jailed with a $5,000 bond.
