September 1, 2000

ATLANTA (AP) _ Cincinnati Reds starter Pete Harnisch left Thursday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves in the third inning after being struck in the lower right leg by a one-hop shot off the bat of Rafael Furcal.

After the ball caromed off his leg, Harnisch picked up the ball and threw it to first, hitting Furcal in the back. Furcal was ruled out for running in the baseline.

Harnisch left after 2 2-3 innings and trailed 2-0. He gave up one hit, a two-run homer to Andruw Jones in the first inning following a walk to Furcal.
