Marshall celebrates its namesake’s 263rd birthday
HUNTINGTON — The Marshall University community Monday rounded out Constitution Week events by celebrating the 263rd birthday of its namesake — John Marshall.
Federally mandated to host Constitution Week events on campus, Marshall always takes it a step further thanks to its namesake, the fourth Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court who established judicial review, which solidified the Constitution as the law of the land.
The university celebrated Marshall’s birthday with cake in the Memorial Student Center.
The day is typically paired with the annual Media Quoits Tournament, but the game was postponed because of inclement weather. The tournament will be rescheduled. Quoits, a game similar to horseshoes, was John Marshall’s favorite game.
