Man arrested for Golden Twp. break-in, returns to scene and confesses

A 37-year-old Madison Heights, Michigan, man was arrested Tuesday morning after confessing to breaking into the Parkside General Store on Silverlake Road in Golden Township.

The incident occurred sometime overnight Tuesday, when the man threw a brick through the glass door of the store and shattered it, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy and detective responded to the complaint when it was called in at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday and began the investigation. They found that numerous bottles of liquor had been stolen, police said.

During the investigation, at 10:15 a.m., the suspect was recognized by police while he was shopping in the store. The man’s appear ance matched what was seen on security footage and the man was pulled to the side by police.

The man admitted to police that he committed the break-in and was arrested.

The man told police he was camping at Silver Lake State Park.

He remains lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
