Leap Day is added once every four years so our calendar stays in alignment with the Earth’s revolutions around the Sun. The next Leap Day is Feb. 29, 2020.
Social Security payments to rise
Social Security payments will increase by 2.8 percent in 2019; that’s the biggest increase to Social Security income since 2012.
When will seasons change?
Spring will arrive at 4:58 p.m. March 20; Summer will arrive at 10:54 a.m. June 21; Fall will arrive at 2:50 a.m. Sept. 23; Winter will arrive at 10:19 p.m. Dec. 21.
No state or national elections
While voters will go to the polls for local elections in the early months of 2019, there are no state or national races on ballots throughout Illinois next year.
But a big race looms in Chicago
With Rahm Emanuel choosing not to run for a third term, there is a crowded field of candidates vying to become mayor of Chicago. The election will be held Feb. 26, with the possibility of a runoff election April 2.
