Angels’ Erstad Placed on DL
DETROIT (AP) _ The Anaheim Angels, decimated by injuries all season, placed outfielder Darin Erstad on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained ligament in his right knee. The move is retroactive to Wednesday.
Erstad injured himself Tuesday against Cleveland and was scratched from the Angels’ lineup the next night when pain persisted.
An MRI Thursday showed abnormalities in the lateral collateral ligament, and he was put on the disabled list after another examination Friday in Los Angeles.
Erstad was batting .246 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in 111 games. He is the 16th player placed on the disabled list by the Angels this season.
The club recalled infielder Andy Sheets from Triple-A Edmonton to take Erstad’s spot on the roster. Sheets joined the team in time for Friday night’s game at Detroit.
