Jamaica and Qatar Win in World Cup Qualifying
Paul Young scored two goals Monday as Jamaica won 2-1 at St. Vincent and the Grenadines 2-1 Monday night in World Cup qualifying from Group Three of soccer’s North and South American and Caribbean region.
At Kingstown, St. Vincent, Young scored in the 20th and 41st minutes, and Christopher Harry scored for St. Vincent in the 81st minute. Jamaica leads the four-team semifinal group with a 2-0 record. St. Vincent is last at 0-2.
At Doha, Qatar routed the visiting Philippines 5-0 in the third game of the Asian Group Ten.
Mohammed Salem Al Enazi scored in the 18th minute, Mahmoud Soufi scored in the 27th and Adel Khamis connected off Soufi’s header three minutes later.
Abdul Aziz Hassan scored in the 37th when goalkeeper Jose Carpio failed to hold his shot and the ball bounced into the net. Al Enazi got his second goal with four minutes left in the first half.
Qatar (2-0) leads the group, followed by India (1-0), which plays Sri Lanka (0-1) on Tuesday night. The Philippines (0-2) is last.
