David City Invite Cancelled
No. 3 David City, East Butler and Shelby-Rising City wrestling teams all had weekend plans derailed thanks to inclement weather.
The David City Invite set for Jan. 18 was canceled on Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. following the last national service weather report according the David City Athletic Director Ronda Gestring. That report, in combination with the fact the the teams from Sutton, Tekamah-Herman and Elkhorn Mount Michael all told David City that they wouldn’t be able to attend, led to the decision to cancel.
David City will be unable to reschedule due to the lack of available makeup dates and the logistical issues with finding more volunteers. David City students were scheduled to get out of school early on Jan. 18 making them available to help out.
“It is a bummer to not host our home tournament,” said head coach Tahner Thiem in comments sent to the Banner-Press. “Justin White and Noah Styskal have never won our home invite, so this was their year and they did not even get the opportunity to wrestle.”
David City hasn’t won its home invitational since Thiem took over the program, but said they felt this year could have been the first.
David City now shifts its eyes toward the future which includes two dulas that could decided if the Scouts make it to state duals.
“If we beat Malcolm and North Bend we will definitely be in for state duals,” Thiem said. “Malcolm has a good team and has quite a bit of depth. It should be another great night of wrestling Thursday at the triangular.”
