Third recruit charged in rape of recruit at Pensacola Navy base
PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) _ A third Navy recruit from the Pensacola Naval Air Station has been charged with raping a female trainee during a party at an off-base apartment, police said.
Adam Curtis Knopp, 19, was arrested by city police Friday on a sexual battery charge. Two other sailors, both 18, were arrested Monday.
A 19-year-old Navy woman told police she voluntarily had sex with a fourth man before the other three raped her Jan. 11.
She and the three men are all students at the Naval Air Technical Training Center at the Navy base.
The arrests followed a recent survey that indicated the training center had only minor problems with sexual harassment. Military basic training facilities were surveyed after reports last year of sexual assaults and harassment of female soldiers by male instructors at Army posts.
If convicted, the sailors could face up to 15 years in state prison and an administrative discharge from the Navy.
