N.C. State 86, No. 3 Maryland 83
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Tammy Gibson scored seven of North Carolina State’s last nine points, including a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left, as the Wolfpack upset No. 3 Maryland 86-83 on Tuesday.
With Maryland (22-4, 12-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) leading 79-69 with less than five minutes remaining, N.C. State used a 15-2 run to rally for its third consecutive win.
Gibson, who finished with 25 points, stole the inbounds pass and scored after a Rhonda Mapp 3-pointer which cut the Maryland lead to 81-79.
Malissa Boles then connected on the only Terrapin basket in the last four minutes.
But baskets by Gibson and Teri Whyte gave the Wolfpack (16-10, 7-8) its first lead since the 3:23 mark of the first half, 84-83.
Rhonda Mapp led the Wolfpack with a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds. Boles paced Maryland with 23.
