Taste of Columbus on horizon

October 4, 2018

Mobile bidding on auction items has opened as the premier event of the fall in Columbus is less than a week away. The 18th annual “Taste of Columbus” will be this Sunday, Oct. 7, to mark Columbus Day weekend.

The event this year supports the Chamber of Commerce and the Columbus Area Future Fund. The timing couldn’t be better for the CAFF to be a partner, because it right now can leverage all the dollars raised at Taste of Columbus into even more! Through the CAFF’s “Toward a Bold Future” Campaign, all dollars raised for the Fund at Taste of Columbus will be matched 2:1! So in effect, you are adding 50 percent to your support with every purchase of tickets or auction items.

As far as the mobile bidding, you can download a free app for Grubaugh Auction Services in the Google Play or Apple stores and you’ll be ready to go. Just search for that name in whichever app store you use for your mobile device. It makes things so easy, with no check-in or check-out the night of the event, and also allows you to bid anytime … even if you can’t attend Taste of Columbus!

If you don’t prefer to use your mobile device, Sunday night at the event, Grubaugh Auction will have people there to help so you can still have some bidding on silent and live auctions!

Tickets for the event are available at the Chamber office on 33rd Avenue. Advance tickets are being sold for $35, while tickets at the door will be $50. That ticket price includes all the food and beverage sampling that you can enjoy over the course of three hours, great fun with your neighbors and friends, as well as access to a truly outstanding array of auction items.

The Royal Auction Committee has put together another wonderful group of select items. You can now peruse the auction catalog through the link to the on-line auction on the Taste of Columbus page on the Chamber’s website at www.thecolumbuspage.com/events.

The Silent Auction Committee has also been busy. It has recruited a great team that has been collecting a selection of silent auction items that will certainly keep attendees busy shopping for the first couple hours of the evening.

The Taste of Columbus raffle item for this year is a stunning diamond necklance. Donated by McChristy Jewelers; this piece will certainly get people’s attention and you can win it for just a $10 ticket! Tickets are on sale at the Chamber office for $10 or 3 for $25. By the way, you do not have to be present to win at the drawing during Taste of Columbus.

I can guarantee you that Taste of Columbus 2018 will continue the tradition of enjoyable evenings full of good food, good drink, and good friends. We hope you’ll join us for a wonderful celebration of all that’s best about Columbus.

On another note, I also want to remind you that Columbus will be hosting the Class B Girls State Golf Championship on Monday and Tuesday at Quail Run. It is fun to host these athletes and their fans from across Nebraska those two days and we hope you’ll come out to the course and support them. Thanks to Deb Loseke and Al Niedbalski and all the CVB volunteers who are making this event happen!

K.C. Belitz is the president of the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce.
