Cary man charged in church burglaries
A Cary man was charged with breaking and entering after police say he confessed to numerous burglaries and attempted burglaries in Cary.
Wilson Morgan Roberts, 32, of 408 SE Maynard Road, was arrested Jan. 24 and charged with larceny, breaking and entering and attempted breaking and entering.
According to a search warrant, a Cary police officer was investigating a string of burglaries at White Plains United Methodist Church, on Southeast Maynard Road, between Jan. 9 and Jan. 21.
During that same time, Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, also on Southeast Maynard Road, reported a burglary, and an attempted burglary was reported at a CVS Pharmacy at 1123 Kildaire Farm Road.
On Jan. 24, the officer noticed a man attempting to break into White Plains UMC around 1:30 a.m.
The suspect fled, but Roberts was found behind a Cary residence about two hours later, according to the warrant.
The warrant states that Roberts confessed to the incidents at the churches and at CVS.
Roberts was being held in the Wake County jail. He is expected to appear in court next month.
Court records show Roberts was ordered community service for counts of felony breaking and entering that occurred in 2016.
