Thirty First Ladies to Attend Nancy Reagan’s Drug Conference

WASHINGTON (AP) _ The first ladies of 30 nations have accepted Nancy Reagan’s invitation to an Oct. 21 conference at the United Nations on prevention and treatment of drug abuse, Mrs. Reagan’s office announced today.

The meeting and luncheon at U.N. headquarters in New York will be similar to Mrs. Reagan’s unprecedented first ladies’ summit in Washington and Atlanta earlier this year at which the wives of more than a dozen foreign leaders heard young people talk about illegal drugs and how they escaped dependence.

The first lady’s press office at the White House released the following list of women who it said have accepted invitations to attend the conference in New York:

Hermine Sinowatz, wife of Prime Minister Fred Sinowatz of Austria; Begum Raushan Ershad, wife of President Hussain Muhammed Ershad of Bangladesh; Lieve Martens, wife of Prime Minister Wilfried Martens of Belgium; Princess Monique, wife of Prince Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia; Carlina Pereira, wife of President Aristides Pereira of Cape Verde; Doris Yankelwicz de Monge, wife of President Luis Alberto Monge Alvarez of Costa Rica; Erasmia Kyprianou, wife of President Spyros Kyprianou of Cyprus.

Also, Asela Mera de Jorge, wife of President Salvador Jorge Blanco of the Dominican Republic; Dona Constanza Obiang, wife of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasoga of Equatorial Guinea; Tellervo Koivisto, wife of President Mauno Koivisto of Finland; Josephine Bongo, wife of President El Hadj Omar of Gabon; Chilel Jawara, wife of President Alhaji Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara of the Gambia; Margarita Papandreou, wife of Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou of Greece; Venetia Blaize, wife of Prime Minister Herbert Blaize of Grenada.
