A teen died Monday evening following a shooting at his home east of downtown, police say.

San Antonio police called to the 200 block of Blue Bonnet Street around 9 p.m. found a Hispanic teen between the ages of 17 and 19 with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The boy’s father and uncle told police that they were asleep when they heard the gunshot. The father walked to his son’s bedroom, where he found his wounded teen standing in the doorway.

The father said he led the boy to his bed and called 911.

San Antonio Police Sgt. Roger Cavazos said the investigation is ongoing and it is unclear if the gunshot was self-inflicted or if there could be a suspect at large.
