Annual report details OLBH’s economic impact
RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital provides about $43 million in community benefit, while its foundation disbursed more than $1.1 million, according to the hospital’s 2018 annual report.
The $42,987,000 impact reported in the annual report, which is for a 16-month period due to a merger, represents both charity care provided, loss when rendering Medicaid services and the cost of screenings, contributions and other community-building activities, said Kevin Compton, Our Lady of Bellefonte manager of public relations and communications.
“The amount is up,” Compton said Tuesday.
He said the amount represented over 16 months compares with $22 million from the prior one-year report, he said. The hospital moved to a 12-month reporting period as of Jan. 1.
“We also are one of the area’s top employers,” Compton said.
The hospital has more than 1,000 employees in Kentucky and Ohio, he said. Our Lady of Bellefonte has urgent care centers in Wheelersburg and Ironton in Ohio.
Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and the Ashland market of Bon Secours Mercy Health is the No. 1 employer in Greenup County, he said.
The report for the 16-month period from September 2017 through December 2018 shows the Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Foundation disbursed $1,147,491, according to the annual report.
