Man Charged in Connection with Monday Night Murder in Lowell

LOWELL -- A Lowell man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing that occurred Monday night in the area of Lawrence Drive and Riverwalk Walk.
Victor Crespo, 21, was also charged with two counts of violation of a restraining order. Crespo was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Lowell District Court.
The victim, identified as Asiatic Alvarez, 18, of Lowell, was transported to Lowell General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the defendant and the victim were known to each other and had arranged to meet prior to the altercation to conduct an apparent exchange of money for marijuana. The defendant allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene around 7 p.m. Last night police were able to identify the alleged perpetrator and he was taken into custody this morning without incident in Lowell.
This case is still actively being investigated, and charges may be amended as the investigation progresses and more information is obtained.
This matter is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Lowell Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Warrant Apprehension Unit assisted in the arrest of the defendant.
