Plans Moving Forward For Upscale Mini Market Near Hanover Industrial Park

October 8, 2018

HANOVER TWP. — Plans are moving forward to open an upscale mini market with gas and diesel pumps at the entrance to the Hanover Industrial Park.

Construction of the mini market and gas station, called Sparta, originally was expected to begin in the spring.

Sanad Al Muqatash, manager for Deep Oasis LLC, said construction plans were delayed but are still in works. He could not say, however, when construction will begin.

Deep Oasis LLC purchased Earth Conservancy mine-scarred land for the development for $240,000 last year, according to a property transaction in the Luzerne County Recorder of Deeds.

The market and gas station will be built across from a $5.5 million construction project for automotive paints distributor Colours, It will be located near Chewy.com’s 800,000-square-foot fulfillment center with hundreds of workers and sites that will house warehouses for Adidas and Patagonia.

It’s unclear when Adidas and Patagonia will open. Efforts to reach Brent Miles, vice president for NorthPoint Development, were unsuccessful.

Al Muqatash said the store will be 5,300 square feet and sell fresh foods like shish kebabs, gyros, chicken rotisserie, cheesesteaks, deli meats and ice cream, which will be ideal for the thousands of people who work in the Hanover Industrial Estates and Hanover Crossings.

It also will include two big canopies with five gas pumps and three diesel pumps and Al Muqatash said it is in a great location to serve the truck traffic coming off State Route 29 to enter the industrial park.

Samir Koury is the owner of the market and gas station. Hanover Twp. officials approved the plans.
