Cricket Australia toughens up team for England
SYDNEY (AP) — Cricket Australia will add several top batsmen to an invitational side to face England in its final tour match before the first Ashes test.
The late change to the schedule — swapping a second-string New South Wales XI for an Invitational XI for the Sydney match beginning Nov. 13 — gives England a chance to face some tougher opposition before the Brisbane test starting Nov. 21.
In exchange, the England and Wales Cricket Board has agreed to reciprocate by improving the quality of the teams Australia will face before the 2015 Ashes series in England.
Cricket Australia said Thursday the revamped lineup for the Sydney Cricket Ground match could now include top batsmen Usman Khawaja, Ed Cowan, Phil Hughes and Adam Voges.
